In 1998 as a bicentennial project Cowra Shire Council in conjunction with the Japanese Government planted 1988 cherry blossom trees between the Cowra War Cemetery, the site of the Prisoner Of War Camp and the Japanese Gardens as a sign of peace and reconciliation with the Japanese people. All trees are sponsored by Japanese businesses and citizens and Australian school children.
The drive from the Garden in Spring when the Cherry Blossoms are out is a highlight of the season.
