About

The Rydlówka Museum is devoted to the national modernist drama – The Wedding (Wesele) by Stanisław Wyspiański. As the site where the action of the drama takes place, the Rydlówka manor house is an unmatched backdrop for the exhibition. The Wedding is strongly connected to the village of Bronowice Małe which at the turn of the 19th century became the focus of interest of painters and writers of the Young Poland (Młoda Polska) group. In 1894 Włodzimierz Tetmajer, married to Anna Mikołajczykówna, built a manor house in Bronowice, where on 21st November, 1900 the wedding reception of Lucjan Rydel and Jadwiga Mikołajczykówna, younger sister of Tetmajer's wife, was held. The event inspired Stanisław Wyspiański to write a drama whose world premiere was held already on 16th March, 1901. In the year 1908 the Tetmajers sold the house to the Rydels, and since then the house, now known as Rydlówka, has remained a property of the poet's family.
