Riwa Fort
Dharavi VillageAbout
Riwa Fort or Kala Qilla (Black Fort) as called by the locals was built by the first Governor of Bombay, Gerald Aungier, to guard against the Portuguese, who occupied the neighboring Salsette island, and later by the Marathas. The fort is now in the dense slum of Dharavi and as a consequence is in a dilapidated condition. It is occasionally visited by tourists and is worth visiting. The Riwa fort is steeped in history which can be felt even today.
