Restaurant Beyrouth

Guéliz Cuisines: Arabic

About

Vegetarians tired of the mundane choice between vegetable couscous, tagine, or pizza will rejoice in this cozy restaurant recently opened by larger-than-life chef Richard Chebli. An enclosed alfresco section at the entrance is decorated in traditional Moroccan style, complete with a mosaic fountain, while a larger upstairs room is more simply furnished and serves alcohol. The menu is surprisingly large; there are more than 30 dishes that include standards such as hummus, tabbouleh, moussaka, moutabbal, falafel, and chawarma. The meze platters, for two to five people, include a vegetarian option, and are a good choice if you feel like a bit of everything. For dessert try the traditional mouhallabieh, a melt-in-your-mouth mousse perfumed with orange and rose water.
