Re-Pla

Carrer Montcada 2 Cuisines: European, Spanish

About

Such was the popularity of the Pla restaurant in the Barri Gòtic that its owner opened this second branch in neighboring La Ribera, on the same street as the Picasso Museum and close to the Santa Caterina market, which provides the place with fresh produce. Unlike the intimate candlelit original restaurant, this is a brasher, down-to-earth bodega-style locale specializing in regional tapas and raciones like jamón Serrano, croquetas, and tortillitas de champiñones (tiny mushroom omelettes). There's a good choice of local and national wines (especially from the Penedés), and smoking is permitted here. It reopened in 2008, after undergoing renovation work, and is now one of the area's brightest and most bustling eating spots.
