In 1696, this holy tank was built by Chitrarao Khatarkar that spans an area of 27 m by 12 m. It is believed that during the period of exile, Rama and Sita used to bathe in this tank or 'kund.' This tank contains holy water and even today, the ashes of a dead person are immersed in this tank by religious Hindus so that the dead can attain salvation. Some of the renowned personalities whose ashes have been immersed in this tank are Indira Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Y B Chavan.
