Quinta do Conventinho
Loures, Portugal
About
Quinta do Conventinho is a XVI century convent surrounded by olive trees, pines and exotic plants from all over the world. It used to be the Convento do Espírito Santo and it was built to capuche monks brotherhood. Later on, in 1834, the liberals took the power and abolished the religious orders giving the opportunitie to Costa Cabral, minister of queen Dona Maria II and count of Tomar, to buy the place and turning it into his summer residence. Only in 1995, Loures city hall took over the place and converted it into Museu Municipal de Loures (Loures Municipal Museum). It has a chapel, a cloister and a free documentation center running from tuesday to friday, from 10 am to 06 pm, stuffed with information about the region and its history. It also has a coffee house/ bar and it is open daily from 10 am to 02 am. The place is located in the north Lisboa metropolitan area. Another Lisboa treat to history lovers.
