Piazza Joe's, located in a handsome, historic building 1 long block from the Confederation Mall, has gone a bit overboard with the Tuscan-style washed tones and fake ivy climbing fake trellises. But it works in a comic-book kind of way. The place is pleasantly casual and can be loud on weekends, but it offers friendly service, a long menu, and lots of comic-book-type mixed drinks to match the decor. (It's the best spot for a late-night meal if you get into town behind schedule.) The wood-fired pizza is consistently quite good, and there's a build-your-own-pasta entree option; take your chances on the rest of the selections, such as five-vegetable lasagna or veal a la limone. There's also a bistro menu, with items that include burgers, chicken wings, and fish and chips.
