This is Britain's only true national park. It's a spectacular landscape of rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, wooded estuaries and wild hills, and a place of sanctuary for wildilfe. Wales first long distance route, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail covers 299km(186 miles) of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Britain. Most of the route is within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and the National Park Authority maintains the path with funding from the Countryside Council for Wales and the European Union. The coast path follows the country's magnificent coastline from Amroth in the south to St Dogmaels in the North. Much of the route is at cliff-top level, providing superb views of the sea, beaches and offshore islands with their wealth of marine and bird life. Elsewhere it follows gentler shorelines, including the outer reaches of the Milford Haven estuary, one of the finest natural harbours in the world.
