Moti Mahal in Lucknow, also known as Pearl Palace, is situated on the banks of Gomti River facing Rana Pratap Road near Hazratganj andopposite to Stadium. It is called Pearl palace because of its pearl like white building. Built by Nawab Nawab Saadat Ali Khan [1798-1814], Moti Mahal was used by the royal family to watch animal combats, which used to held on the other side of the Gomti river.
The royal family members also used this building for bird watching. However, it appears that it was constructed as a citadel to watch enemy operations. Two more buildings, viz Shah Manzil and the Mubarak Manzil were later added on the main structure by Nawab Ghazi-ud-din Haider at the left and right side of Moti Mahal. The building is presently occupied by government offices and the beautiful lawn of the building is used for organising exhibitions, parties, marriage functions, etc
