Established in 1992 by Patravadi Mejudhon, an award-winning actress, stage director and playwright, the Patravadi Theatre complex is both an incubation centre for aspiring performing artists and a stage for enjoying Thai classical and modern dances. A visionary and an advocate for the preservation of Thailand's artistic heritage, Patravadi introduces something that no one has ever attempted before: blending contemporary and classical Thai dance movements to create refreshingly different perspectives on traditional performances.The theatre is situated on a scenic bank of the Chao Phraya River, overlooking the dazzling rooflines of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew from the Thonburi side. Performances are scheduled on weekends at the theatre itself and adjacent riverside Club Arts, the cafe gallery concept where you can enjoy a cup of latte amidst a backdrop of the Chao Phraya River. Committed to preserving as well as disseminating the heritage of both classical and contemporary Thai performing arts, Patravadi Theatre provides training grounds where aspiring Thai and foreign dancers/performers can sharpen their skills and share techniques with fellow performing artists. Patravadi Performing Arts School in Bangkok offers numerous courses from classical dance, music, singing to modern dance, acrobat, mime, puppetry and butoh. The 30-rai (12-acre) area just south of Khao Takieb is where you will find an art camp, art gallery, a theatre, accommodation, banqueting facilities and Patravadi High School all in one place. On a larger and more integrative scale, Vic Hua Hin reflects Patravadi's continuous effort to create public spaces for the artistic and creative minds, particularly the young ones who will become tomorrow's talented artists.The imaginative landscape, showcasing sculptural flowers and characters dancing on whitewashed walls, manicured grass and domed roofs, feels as if Peterpan is about to emerge from behind a tree or Alice will soon pop out from behind the stage. On selected weekends, an array of dance, theatre and music performances are the main attractions, offering delightful alternatives from the usual shopping spree at Hua Hin's night market.
