Paru's was first established in Washington, D.C., in 1975, after my family had immigrated from India. They wanted to engage in a business that would harmonise with their beliefs and their life-style, and so my father combined his entrepreneurial skills with my mother's talents in cooking and plunged boldly into the difficult job of keeping a small restaurant running seven days a week.
