Palais du baron d'Erlanger (Dar Ennejma Ezzahra)

8 Rue 2 Mars 1934

About

It took ten years, from 1912 to 1922, for the French-German Baron Rodolphe d'Erlanger and his wife to build this Arabic-style inspired palace. Its sumptuous rooms have Arab-Andalusian pieces of furniture and ornamentations. The garden overlooking the bay is gorgeous. Currently, the palace is home to the Arab and Mediterranean Music Center which has the reputation of holding the finest concerts. The Baron devoted the last years of his life to promoting Arab-Andalusian music, the ma'luf, and collected various pieces of this art form. This music center is the Baron's legacy. A beautiful exhibit of musical instruments gives to the visitor the opportunity to get familiarized with this music. There is also a collection of art objects, notably some Baron's paintings, which immerse the visitor into the quaint charm of the palace. Admission fee is TD 3 for the adults and TD 1.5 for the children.
