Ostkost

Lychener Strasse 54 Cuisines: European

About

There are more galleries and cafés in Prenzlauer Berg than food stores. But as art and coffee aren't exactly filling, a couple of bright young Berliners decided that the time had come for the ultimate food store. Ostkost ("Eastern Foods"), offers nostalgic products from the long-forgotten East German era as well as high-quality and less expensive items from today's East. These products used to be sold on every street corner in East Berlin, yet were rapidly replaced by Western goods after the fall of the Wall. But now they're back! In the small store next door to the wacky furniture shop, you'll find everything from genuine East German bread rolls to sausages from Rostock and mustard from Bautzen.
