Oita Motomachi. The Motomachi Stone Buddhas of the Heian Period (794-1192) were carved on the side of the Uenogaoka Hill. The more than 5 meters tall Yakushi Nyorai central figure shown here is carved almost entirely from a single stone slab. The site has been declared as a national historic monument.
