Located in Beijingâs Xuanwu District, Niu Jie Mosque is the largest and oldest mosque in the capital. It was first built in 996 AD, seeing several later reconstructions. Niu Jie Mosque, which covers an area of about 6000 square meters, is a mixture of both Islamic and Chinese culture. The exterior architecture is in traditional Chinese style, with the interior décor being mostly in the Islamic style.There are several buildings in Niu Jie Mosque, such as the prayer hall, the Bangge Lou (minaret), a six-cornered moon observatory tower, and two pavilions with stone steles.
