Gulou Market is a pedestrianised market area around one of Ningbo's most famous landmark buildings—the Ningbo Clock Tower. Originally, the area served as the south gate of the city during the Tang and Song Dynasty, but in modern times has turned into a commercial area just like the Chenghuang Temple Market. The Gulou market area is lined with over 400 individual stores spread over an area of 36,000 square metres, selling anything from women's clothing, shoes and accessories to CDs, sports equipment, wood carvings and glass sculptures.
