About

Founded through a collaboration between Maison d'Orfèvrerie Fontaine, one of the oldest shopping arcades in Geneva, and Victorinox, makers of the world-famous Swiss Army Knife, the Musée de la Coutellerie Suisse chronicles the history of French knife making. On display are examples of knives, both decorative and utilitarian, including the original Swiss Army Knife from 1891, and a more modern design that includes over 200 functions and takes three months to assemble. A professional knife maker is on-site Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to answer all questions about the knife making process. Admission is free, as the museum is housed inside the Tour de l'Ile, a cutlery store that has been in business since 1832.
