Mount Amadis

This trip, which is in the newly created International Ridge Provincial Park, takes you to the high point of the ridge, Mount Amadis. Here you are only 2 km (1.2 mi) from the International Boundary, hence the name for both the ridge and the park. As to Amadis: he was the hero of a medieval Spanish romance, not a hiker. This is an amazing ridge walk. The map contours do not do justice to the steepness of the north side of the ridge as it plunges down into Cultus Lake. The view to the northwest is out over Vedder Mountain and across the Fraser Valley to Golden Ears, Mounts Robie Reid and Judge Howay, and the Chehalis peaks. This hike is a full day since a small shale slide about 4 hours up the trail requires care and deadfall slows your progress along the easy-angle top of the ridge. © Copyright Jack Bryceland and Mary & David Macaree Published by Greystone Books.
