Mount Agung has huge spiritual significance to the people of the island, and is home to the 'Mother Temple' of Besakih. It forms part of a chain of volcanos that make up the back bone of Bali.Mount Agung last erupted in 1963 (see information box in this article). This was one of the largest 20th century eruptions anywhere in the world. Historical eruptions of the volcano are poorly recorded, but there was certainly one in the 1820s. Mount Agung is the most sacred mountain on the island of Bali. It's also home to Besakih Temple, the largest and most sacred temple in Bali. While on vacation to Bali, you should visit these attractions.Besakih Temple is said to be the only temple where a Hindu of any caste can worship. In here there are three main temples dedicated to Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu.
