Motu Nui, Motu Iti and Motu Kau kau islets

About

Motu Nui, Motu Iti and Motu Kau kau islets are three islets at the westernmost tip of Rapa Nui - Easter island. The largest of the three, Motu Nui, was where the ancient ritual of Tangata Mau Bird man took place. This ritual consisted in the competition amongst the several clans in the island to collect the first egg of the manutara sooty tern. Whoever seized the first egg raced to swim back to Easter Island, climbing the cliffs to Orongo and presenting the egg to the judges in the village.
