In South Africa many of the usual 'chain restaurants' are available and to find a restaurant that would cater to traditional Afrikaaner cuisine is not easy. The Monument Restaurant is a good place to discover foods that the recipes for which have been handed from mother to daughter for many generations, since the time of the Voortrekkers. The Voortrekker Monument is a little out of town and it is advisable to find your own transport to get there. If one were to visit the other attractions in the vacinity (which include the Voortrekker Monument, the fort and museum) one could easily make a day trip of the event. Being a cultural heritage site the cost involved to visit the various centres is minimal.
