Though perhaps a little out of the way on the Northern side of Cologne, the Monheimer Hof is easy to get to, right across from the U-Bahn stop. It is nice to meet here in summer when the beer garden is open. As the 'Hof' name suggests, here you can eat hearty food and drink plenty of beer, along with a slightly older crowd. It is well worth stopping here after a visit to the Cologne Zoo, just down the road. There is often live music here, normally blues or rock.
