Metal and Mines Museum

Mining is so inherent to Minas Gerais that the state's name comes from it. A collection featuring the history and importance of mining and metalworking in Minas is on display at the Museum of Mines and Metal (Museu das Minas e do Metal), in Belo Horizonte - one of the 12 host cities in 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Opened in March 2010, the museum has been managed by Gerdau, one of the world's leading long steel producers and the top long steel producer in the Americas, since December 2013. A partnership between public and private institutions underlines the development of Circuito Cultural Praça da Liberdade (circuitoculturalliberdade.com.br), or Liberty Square Cultural Circuit, of which the MMM is a part.
