About
This is the kind of long-established restaurant where an extended local family might migrate for a breath of fresh air, a view over the lake, and a well-prepared roster of mostly fish dishes. The setting is directly beside the lake, within a pair of pale blue, vaguely baroque dining rooms whose style is best described as romantische-gemütlich (romantic and cozy). Menu items include a small selection of meats (especially Wiener schnitzels and grilled filet steak), and lots and lots of fish. Raw ingredients are hauled in from the North and Mediterranean seas, the Atlantic Ocean, and the freshwater lakes and streams of the surrounding region. Most of these are prepared in the simplest way possible: lightly grilled and seasoned with a garlic-flavored butter sauce, served with salad and boiled new potatoes, and accompanied with a young and fruity white wine, preferably Austrian or Italian. Consider prefacing any main course with such starters as onion or garlic soup; a carpaccio of tuna, whitefish, or beef; smoked trout; or perhaps succulent snails cooked in garlic-butter sauce with a gratin of cheese.
