About

Your hosts at Maranatha, Douglas and Olwen Venn, have created an extraordinary place to stay. They provide bed and breakfast accommodation in rural Blarney only ten minutes drive from Cork City. Each room at Maranatha is uniquely inspired by Olwen’s daring designs. Centred around large four-poster or king size ornate beds the rooms are decorated like fantasies: one based on a top-hat theme with a perfectly round bed, another in regal style with deep burgundy velvet drapes and an enormous crown above the bed. They have to seen to be believed. Each room has its own private bathroom, central heating, hairdryers, tea and coffee making facilities and WiFi access. The house has a beautiful drawing room with a piano, a lounge where you can watch television and a bright sunny conservatory.Breakfasts are served in the flower filled conservatory. They include a buffet of cereals, cheeses, yogurts, hot scones, croissants, brown bread, berries, cream and fruit. A full hot Irish breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausages and tomatoes is also on offer. The house is surrounded by monkey puzzle trees and rhododendrons. You can stroll through the beautiful private woodlands and meadows surrounding this lovely period country house. Bicycle hire, horse riding, fishing, boating, swimming and tennis are also all available activities at Maranatha Country House. Maranatha Country House is only 2km from the world famous Blarney Town. Blarney is one of the few villages in Ireland with a well preserved village square that today continues to be a focal point of village life. In Tudor style, the village has developed around the square which is owned and carefully maintained by Blarney Castle Estate. The main reason that so many people visit Blarney, however, is to kiss the legendary Blarney Stone, high up on the battlements at Blarney Castle. Tradition holds that those who kiss the Blarney Stone will be endowed with the gift of eloquence ‘the gift of the gab’, as the locals call it.Maranatha Country House is also ideally located for day trips to The Queenstown Story in Cobh, Fota Wildlife Park, Jameson Irish whiskey Heritage in Midleton and the gourmet town of Kinsale. For golf lovers there is a plethora of golf courses within a 15 minute radius of Maranatha.
