Magic Fountain

Av Maria Cristina, 08004 Barcelona, Spain

About

Montjuic's Magic Fountain is a spectacular performance of water, music and lights. It's also free! The Magic Fountain was designed by engineer Carles Buigas in anticipation of the Barcelona International Exposition of 1929. Buigas was chief of the electromechanical installations section of the Exposition. He had the visionary idea of employing mechanical jets to create streams of dancing water. Over 3000 men worked on the huge project. At its completion, cascades and fountains were installed in several points along Avenida Maria Cristina, near Plaça d'Espanya. The main feature was the monumental fountain on the platform built at the foot of the National Palace.
