For young Israelis, going on an extended backpacking trip after army service is as much of a rite-of-passage as having a barmitzvah. And from a nation which loves adventure travel comes L'metayel (literally meaning for the traveller). The shop sells everything from snowboards to snakebite kits and stocks Israeli and international brands. Of all the travel stores I have been to in the world, this is by far my favorite.Its services, which include a travel agency, bureau de change, travellers' health center, a noticeboard for finding travel companions, a travel book store and camping and travel store, take up a whole corridor of the Dizengoff Centre. The staff are all experienced travellers and are happy to give advice. There are free lectures almost everyday, including Spanish lessons (for those going to South America).
