Las Piñas, Philippines

About

The Spanish Heritage has been evident in the Filipino culture having been under their regime for more than 300 years. Catholicism was one of their greatest gift to the Filipinos. The architecture of the Las Piñas Bamboo Organ is one of the most extravagant contributions of Spain to Philippines. Both the organ and the church were designed by an Augustinian priest, Fr. Diego Cera de la Virgen del Carmen in the 19th century. After several natural disaster, the church and the organ needed restoration. A contract for total restoration was awarded to Johannes Klais Orgelbau KG in Bonn, Germany, and it was shipped there in 1973. Then, in 1975, it was sent back to the Philippines and was welcomed joyfully after a very successful local and international cooperation. Eventually on November 24, 2003, the Las Piñas Bamboo Organ was declared a National Treasure. It is a national pride to have tourists see the magnificent place and feel the historic ambiance and be part of the longest running international festival being hold every February.
