Krzysztof Jasiński, founded the STU Theatre in 1966, and has been its only manager over the entire period. During its 40 year of existence, the theatre was perceived as a student theatre, theatre commune, alternative theatre, and enclave of dissent and counterculture.In 1997, the Theatre was granted the status of the voivodship and municipalities cultural institution as the Krakow STU Stage. The Theatre is managed as an arts company. The Theatre Artistic Director, Krzysztof Jasiński, welcomes the cooperation of directors, who often hire outstanding Polish actors of their choice. Despite the passing years, the theatre has always been open for new trends in the field of drama, cabaret, show business and other theatre forms. The Krakow STU Stage has won its recognition by giving TV benefit performances to honour people of culture, arts, and science in an unconventional way. The Krakowski Teatr Scena STU Theatre does not have its own acting company. The artists are contracted for the individual productions.
