About
The village of Killeshin, located in County Laois just 5km from Carlow Town, was once home to an important Medieval monastery, established in the 5th or 6th Century. Its name is thought to derive from Gleann Uissean, the valley in which it was established, or Kill Uisin, the Church of Oisín. Though the monastery’s round tower was destroyed in the 18th Century, the site includes the remains of a beautiful Romanesque church with fascinating carvings around the doorway.
