KERRY COUNTY MUSEUM
Ashe Memorial Hall, Denny Street, Tralee, Kerry, Republic of Ireland http://www.kerrymuseum.ie/About
Through its array of artefacts, interactive galleries and hands-on activities Kerry County Museum, winner of the prestigious Museum of the Year award in 2009, explores the rich archaeology and turbulent history of County Kerry. Each object in the museum gallery tells its own story, whether it's an early Medieval brooch rescued from the ashes of a turf fire after being lost in a bog for over 1,000 years, or duelling pistols aimed and fired by the Liberator, Daniel O’Connell. The award winning Tom Crean Exhibition tells the story of the heroic Annascaul man who was part of Shakelton's crew in the Antarctic. Bone Investigators is a new interactive gallery exploring Tralee’s violent Medieval past through the eyes of archaeologists. Children can excavate a replica skeleton, investigate a Medieval murder and inspect a rotten Viking tooth. Finally, be enthralled by the sights, sounds and smells of a bustling Medieval town. Stroll through the streets of Tralee in 1450 AD in the Medieval Experience – where history comes to life.
