Keresztény Múzeum (Christian Museum)
Mindszenty tér 2
About
This museum, in the neoclassical former primate's palace, houses Hungary's largest collection of religious art and the largest collection of medieval art outside the National Gallery in Budapest. The Lord's Coffin of Garamszentbenedek is probably the museum's most famous piece; the ornately carved, gilded coffin on wheels was originally used in Easter celebrations. To get to the museum, continue past the Watertown Parish Church on Berényi Zsigmond utca. Even if you don't plan on visiting this museum, it's definitely worth it to take a break from the crowds at the cathedral and take a stroll through the quiet, cobblestone streets of Esztergom's Víziváros (Watertown).
