About
Kankwari Fort is situated in Kankwari village, within the buffer zone of the Sariska Wildlife National Park in Alwar district. Though built by Maharajah Jai Singh II of Jaipur in the 17th century, this fort is famous for the fact that Dara Shikoh, the brother of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, served his lifelong exile here before being executed. Known for his scholarly and secular views, Dara Shikoh is remembered for his efforts of translating Vedas to Persian, during his last days, when he was confined in this fort.
