This is Kalmar's leading museum of art, though naturally it can't compete with the treasures found in Gothenburg and Stockholm. But it has its own particular charm, especially if you're drawn to two of the best-known Swedish artists, Anders Zorn and Carl Larsson. (We weren't particularly thrilled with some of the other 19th-c. Swedish painters.) The best reason to come here is to see the temporary modern exhibitions, part of "traveling shows" that bring great art to the provinces of Europe. Sketches and finished works by important Swedish designers are displayed in the design gallery.
