John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park

About

Well, breezy winds made for rough seas again today, so the snorkel and dive tours at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park were cancelled! Boo. That's okay though, there's plenty more to do at the park.  If you've been following along over on my VISIT FLORIDA Outdoors and Nature section, you know that I've been here before. We did one of my videos here at the park on a snorkel trip at Molasses Reef, so refer to that if you want to see what all the fuss is about. Boys and girls, this is one of the finest places to dive and snorkel in the United States - no kidding!  I spent the bulk of the day hanging out at Cannon Beach, which you'll find right up next to the parking area at the park. Yes, there are actual cannons on the beach, and they are authentic. Also, there's several more cannons underwater recreating a shipwreck that you can snorkel around. Very cool. I'm sure there's another beach with cannons on it somewhere, but this is the only one that I've ever been to!  Lots of stuff to do here - camping, snorkel and dive tours, an aquarium, and kayaking. Definitely a unique state park, and another of Florida's outdoor gems. A must-do if you are in the Florida Keys!
