Istrian Ethnographic Museum
In Pazin Kastel
About
The display of Istrian cultural artifacts in Pazin's Kastel museum is one of the best in Croatia. The collection includes traditional Istrian costumes, farm and household items, a model of an old Istrian kitchen with its distinctive traditional hearth, looms, winemaking implements, and much more. Don't miss the display of 14th- through 20th-century bells on the ground floor. The bells were taken from village churches in all parts of Istria during World War II to save them from the fascists, who melted them down to make bullets. The oldest dates to the 15th century. The bells are displayed with photos or drawings that show how they looked in their churches. The bells in this museum are all that remain. The displays are well annotated in several languages. Tip: Entrance is through Pazin Kastle.
