About
The Iao Needle landmark in Iao Valley State Park is a vegetation-covered lava remnant rising 1,200 feet from the valley floor and surrounded by the cliffs of the West Maui Mountains (a dormant volcano). The second wettest spot in Hawai`i, Iao Valley receives more than 400 inches of rain per year, which flow into the Iao Stream. The Hawaii Nature Center's Interactive Nature Museum is less than a mile away from the entrance of the State Park. Be sure to stop in, as the museum provides many hands on exhibits that the kids will love. Interact with a giant globe and yellow belt to see how many miles away you home is from the island of Maui. Take a picture skiing down the snowy peaks of Mauna Kea. Or view underwater life through a periscope. The Hawaii Nature Center Interactive Nature Museum will keep you entertained while providing some education about the flora and fauna of Hawaii.
