About Howey-in-the-Hills

Howey-in-the-Hills is a town in Lake County , Florida , United States . The population was 956 at the 2000 census. Howey-in-the-Hills was founded by William John Howey . On May 8, 1925 Howey-in-the-Hills was incorporated as the Town of Howey. In 1927 the name was officially changed to Howey-in-the-Hills, this was done to reflect the location of the town in an area of rolling hills. Marina Del Rey is a very small marina on Lake Harris, the 4th largest lake in Florida. Pontoon and bass boats can be rented or you can take a 1 1/2 hour cruise on the wooden 1930's River Yacht, "La Reina". Of course fishing is a popular acitivity in the lake. Species include bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass & sunfish. There's a boardwalk which winds through the moss covered trees and canals leading to the lake. If you want to skip the scenic route just walk along the asphalt street to the lake.
