Hog's Back Falls Park
Hog's Back Road and Colonel By Drive
About
This lovely park accommodates one of the most breathtaking vistas in Ottawa, the Prince of Wales Falls, known popularly as Hog's Back Falls. Hog's Back Falls are located where the Rideau River splits from the Rideau Canal. These series of waterfalls, completed in 1830, were created by artificially flooding the Three Rock Rapids in order to accommodate the Hog's Back Lock of the Rideau Canal. Sitting on the rocks above the falls and listening to the roar of the waterfalls while watching the swirling water is indeed mesmerizing. The spot is popular with sunbathers in the summer and is adjacent to Vincent Massey Park, a beautiful green space known for its picnic facilities.
