Hippodrome

Leicester Square

About

The Hippodrome is huge, but hardly a hip contender in London's club stakes. It's easy to get lost inside this cavernous disco emporium, so don't forget your compass, or at least arm all your friends with walkie-talkies. Foreign students, young tourists and cheesy-club enthusiasts can't seem to get enough of the once legendary venue, but locals are seldom to be found. An epicentre of popular entertainment for over a century, today's serious sound systems, astounding lighting, mainstream tunes and live dance acts all give clues to its mass appeal. Mondays see Bump'n'Grind bang out the latest R'n'B, soul and swing. Tuesdays are Wild at Heart with resident DJs showcasing Decades of Dance, while Wednesdays present a conservative mix of eighties and nineties hits. Thursdays drown crowds in dance anthems, and Curious draws in Friday clubbers for the ultimate sound and light experience, while Slam simulates the same for Saturday. Dress is smart casual (no trainers).
