About
Get sweeping views from Southern California's highest peak.
Southern California tends to be a landscape of broad flat valleys sliced by rugged mountain ranges, so climbing up into those mountains can afford some pretty spectacular vistas. And what better spot to be than the very tippy-top of all those SoCal summits At 11,503 feet, Mt. San Gorgonia makes the ultimate alpine destination, with several well-maintained trails accessing the broad summit. But that's not to suggest it doesn't require some serious work to get there. Any route you choose requires well over 4,000 feet of elevation gain. But once you get there, stand back in awe. Since you're several hundred feet above treeline, you'll have unimpeded views in every direction.
To reach the mountain, within San Bernardino National Forest , travel about 15 miles east from Redlands. Check with the Forest Service for tips on trails and conditions, and be sure to carry plenty of water.
