About
Henry's Island gets its name from a European, who in 19th century surveyed this area mainly covered in mangrove forest. From Bakkhali it is a 10 minutes ride by car or the rickshaw vans. The beach of the Henry's Island is rocky and muddy, standing opposite to the Lothian Island's forest. The Fisheries Department of West Bengal has set up some lodges and a pisciculture project here to attract tourists. Trees like palm, gora, kankru, hetal and sundari, which grow naturally, have been planted. Henry's Island is also popular as a bird watching location. The Henry's Island beach can be reached through a mud path cutting through a mangrove forest.
