Halim Perdanakusuma Airport
Halim Perdanakusuma Village, Makasar
About
This was formerly Jakarta's international airport before the Soekarno-Hatta Airport was built. Merpati Nusantara Airlines (MNA) primarily operates the scheduled flights here, flying to Bandung and Tanjung Karang (Lampung). The airport serves 12 commercial airlines with 35 domestic destinations. The mining and forestry companies are mainly the ones to contract the domestic and international chartered lines. Besides commercial flights, the airport also runs hajj pilgrimage flights (these take off two kilometers south of the commercial-passenger terminal) and serves VIP or official guests of the state. The area lies about 10 kilometers southeast of central Jakarta and 20 minutes from the city center. Banks, bookstores and a public communications center are located within the airport complex.
