With 8 different varieties of som tam, Hai Som Tam is surely appropriately named. The modest streetside restaurant just off Silom Road on Soi Convent is a reliable place to get some outstanding servings of the spicy, pounded green papaya salad. Several other dishes are offered generally from Isaan (Northeast Thailand), a few soups and notably the dish laab or larb which is a spicy/tangy, cold ground meat salad. Locals flock here for lunch from the nearby office buildings and dinner sees a good crowd as well. Beware of the peanuts in the som tam if you have allergies! A short walk from the Sala Daeng BTS station.
