Graves Museum of Archaeology and Natural History

401 SW Second Street

About

Now a sleek museum with an intriguing variety of exhibits, this operation once was tucked away in a dusty series of rooms with a leaking roof and peeling walls. Thanks largely to the determination and considerable lobbying talents of Gypsy Graves, for whom this museum is named, this new facility was born several years ago and just keeps getting better. Here you can peer at the teeth of a dinosaur and trace the lines of a fossil fern. A 6,000-pound hunk of quartz dazzles in the mineral exhibit and an eclectic array of antiquities reveal the history of Florida and its place in the world.
