About
The delicious vegetarian food is prepared in the large temple kitchens by members of the Hare Krishna faith. It is completely vegetarian and possibly one of the most economical meals you will find in Durban. The kitchens were originally built in order to feed the large number of devotees that flock to the temple each day, but there are now a good percentage of visitors who come solely for the food. There is no decor to speak of. The restaurant is reminiscent of a boarding school dining room and is practical rather than atmospheric. A wonderful place for vegetarians who are tired of those limp platters of over-steamed vegetables cowering under too much white sauce. The Hare Krishna Temple of Understanding is just south of the centre of Durban in the suburb of Chatsworth. This is a lunchtime only venue, although light snacks and drinks can be a bought at any time of the day.
