Attend an athletics meeting at Gateshead International Stadium [71], just across the river from Newcastle. The multi-use stadium hosts many international league rugby matches. Many of the world's top athletes compete at Gateshead, which hosts the British Grand Prix. In 2006, Asafa Powell equalled the then world record of 9.77 seconds here.
