As you travel around Berlin try to spot the Flak towers, even though they are partially demolished they are fascinating. These towers were designed and constructed in pairs, a G Tower—gun tower, combat tower, battery tower, or large flak tower. And the other being L Tower also known as the command tower, listening bunker, or small flak tower. The towers are typically 300 to 500 meters away. Tower wall thickness was in the 2 to 2.5 meter range and were 130 ft high. Each of the big flak towers were used as air raid shelters and civilians sought refuge in the lower levels of and the upper levels were reserved to military action. Berlin towers are at Friedrichshain and Humboldthain.
