Rube Goldberg would be proud of Eureka’s Kinetic Grand Championship . The annual event combines imagination and engineering in a contest to see which contestants can build the best human-powered vehicles. Rules for the competition are relatively scant, but one biggie is that all contraptions must float for a portion of the route. Dubbed the "Triathalon of the Art World," this 42-mile, three-day race takes competitors along the coast from Arcata to Ferndale, and is great fun to watch.
